Cats & Critters Pet Nutrition
Feeding your pet a balanced diet that’s species-specific is important to establishing lifelong wellness. At Cats & Critters, we can help you design and implement a nutrition plan that keeps your pet both healthy and satisfied.
Choosing the Right Food
Regardless of the type of pet you have, it’s important to realize no one food or product is the absolute best. However, you can select the right food based on your pet’s individual needs. From cats to rabbits to chinchillas (and everything in between), each animal requires a different combination of nutrients. Our suggestions take into account age and lifestyle and ensure the proper amount of protein, fats, and carbohydrates. We invite you to review our feline dietary recommendations and our small mammal dietary recommendations.

Weight Loss and Management
For cats and small mammals, being even slightly overweight can put them at risk for developing serious medical conditions. Common weight-related disorders include:
- Heart and respiratory disease
- Arthritis (degenerative joint disease and associated pain)
To protect your pet’s health, consider these weight management tips:
Monitor portion size and stick to the recommended amount found on the food label. Overeating is common, especially among cats, so controlling food intake may be necessary.
Consider purchasing a toy that rolls around and slowly releases food, encouraging pets to work for their meal.
Make a treat bag that contains only the daily-recommended serving size. When the bag is empty, your pet should not receive any more treats for the day. Be sure to involve the whole family.
Make sure your pet gets plenty of exercise each day. Purchase interactive toys or let him or her play outside (in a safe environment, of course).
Preventing obesity and managing your pet’s weight is easier than you think, and our team is happy to help you explore healthier lifestyle choices for your pet. Please contact us to start developing a plan for healthy weight loss (rapid weight loss is dangerous).
